COMMUNITY TAX ALERT: Economic Impact Payments
The following special alert from Community Tax contains important information regarding the stimulus payment you are entitled to.
As you may have heard, the recently-passed CARES Act entitles most Americans to direct payments of up to $1200 — or $2400 for joint filers — plus up to $500 per qualifying dependent.
If you have already filed your 2019 returns, the IRS will use the information you provided to calculate your stimulus payment. If you haven’t yet filed your 2019 returns, the IRS will calculate your payment based on the information provided on your 2018 returns. You will receive your payment directly into the banking account indicated on your return. This means that if you are up-to-date on your taxes, no further action is required.
If you are not legally required to file your taxes, or just have failed to file your taxes for 2018 or 2019, the U.S. Department of Treasury strongly recommends you do so as soon as possible to receive your stimulus payment in a timely manner. This is the only way you can receive your economic impact payments.
To help, Community Tax is offering a one-time reduced fee for traditional non-filers: $150 for an expedited filing. Tax prep for more traditional filers is available. But you must act fast — the window is closing to ensure that you receive the payment you are entitled to.
